Eurythmy Evening Classes starting 2nd May

Eurythmy Evening Classes starting 2nd May

How do you ensure you have time during the week to reconnect with yourself? Maybe with a quiet cup of coffe/tea or a glass of wine? Do you meditate – or try, or maybe do yoga or another kind of movement class or exercise? Do you find it hard to make time for these things and just grab whatever moment you can? Surely committing to yet another weekly activity is NOT the way to get more time to reconnect!

The thing is that maybe sometimes it is. Especially if the activity we commit to is one of the very things that can really help us to become more present in ourselves and more aware of the space around us. Eurythmy is a little known treasure in this field. It is a performance art and as such the foundation of it is artistic, but within, around and underlying this art is the fact that in it’s very nature it is an enlivening form of movement that continually requires us to become more and more aware of our movement and the space around us. It is also not only a performance art: it is also a social movement art and there are numerous exercises that can continually help us improve both our coordination, concentration and mindfulness of self as well as our connection to the people around us.

However, for this awareness to grow you will need to commit to a regular practise – just as you would if you want to get physically fit or learn to play an instrument. This is why I am starting a weekly evening class as well as monthly Saturday morning workshops – because sometimes having a regular commitment just gets us going and can give us that much needed time during the week where we can reconnect. Come along and try something new – no previous experience is needed. All you need to bring is yourself and preferably wear comfortable clothes and thick socks (anti-slip if you have any).

TIME:  TUESDAY EVENINGS 7.30 – 8.30pm from the 2nd MAY for 8 weeks.

VENUE: Orwell Arts, 17 Orwell Place, Edinburgh, EH11 2AD

COST: £5 per person per week – if you commit to and pay upfront for all 8 sessions at the first session you get the last session free.

Saturday Workshop: Fundamentals of Eurythmy

If you haven’t heard of eurythmy before you are probably not alone. There are so many other movement workshops around that to keep up with every single one of them is quite impossible and the name might sound a bit obscure and not so easy to remember. However, eurythmy is exactly the meaning of it’s name: harmonious movement. It is a movement art that can help us reconnect and to feel ourselves as a fully present member of our own little microcosm and the wider macrocosm around. It helps us become aware of ourselves and to stay present in our everyday busyness and to feel a greater sense of connection to what is going on around us.

My upcoming workshop Fundamentals of Eurythmy on the 29th April is both intended to be a taster session for anyone who hasn’t tried eurythmy before and to be a refresher for those who have. During the workshop we will work with some of the very fundamental aspects of movement – how we connect with the ground beneath us and how we consciously engage with the space we are moving in. We will be working with aspects such as rhythm and geometric forms and there will be plenty of exercises that you can use as a movement meditation and that you can continue practising at home. There will also be exercises that help improve our coordination and concentration and that are fun, upbeat and engaging. All in all it’s intended to be both a lively and reflective morning that will hopefully help you look at movement in a whole new way. So if you feel like trying something new and getting a few tools to work with at home come along! All you need to bring is yourself and a pair of eurythmy shoes or antislip socks if you have any – if not, socks will do just fine.
