Following fully booked workshops in September in both Edinburgh and Glasgow I have managed to fit in another workshop in Edinburgh before Christmas along the same themes of Mindful and Social Eurythmy/Movement, with a focus on centrering, balancing, finetuning our senses and connecting. Today’s society doesn’t always favour and enable positive connections with other people and social Eurythmy is a great way of promoting connection and awareness of social dynamics. Mindful Eurythmy is a great aid in a time when experts say we are in the middle of a stress epidemic and mental health problems are on the rise. In this workshop we will continue working with some of the Mindful Eurythmy exercises and find ways of combining and becoming […]
This workshop is for children from 7 – 12 years old and a parent. There will be a mixture of fun, social and mindful Eurythmy exercises.
This Mindful Eurythmy Workshop offers a chance to learn some simple, yet effective, movement exercises that can help become more present and bring the body and mind to a relaxed and calm state. They deepen with practice and can be practised anywhere you have a little space to move. The benefits of these exercises grow over time and they offer a way of centring yourself and finding inner balance as well as being calming.
Strengthening resilience is an important factor in learning to cope more effectively with stress and adversity. As explored elsewhere there are different ways in which one can approach this (see the article ‘What is Resilience?’) and in this article I will look more in depth at the role Eurythmy can play. “Skilled use of one’s body has been important in the history of the species for thousands, if not millions, of years. In speaking of masterful use of the body, it is natural to think of the Greeks, and there is a sense in which this form of intelligence reached its apogee in the West during the Classical Era. The Greeks revered the beauty of the human form and, by […]
We constantly engage with the world around us in one way or the other – we are either actively doing, responding to something emotionally or thinking about our lives, people we know or what is happening in the world. These forces or ways of engaging are constantly working in us – for better or for good. We all know people who are very wilful, people who get over-emotional or people who are in their heads too much; ideally these three forces should be in harmony and working together, but we see more and more that they become fragmented and we are not able to get them to work together them in healthy way. Through Eurythmy one can get a clearer sense and experience […]
This workshop on Speech Eurythmy is the rescheduling of the workshop in March that was cancelled due to ‘The Beast from the East’. It follows on from the previous workshop on the 10th February about the consonants in Eurythmy. This time we will focus more on the vowels and although it links with the previous workshop it also completely stands alone and you don’t have to have attended the previous workshops to be able to follow this one. In this workshop we will work with the qualities of the vowels and how they link to our soul experience and expression – which ones do we relate to the most and how can they help us to become more conscious of how we are in the […]
The first workshop in November on Experiencing the Planets went well and we did a lot of exploring and talking about the quality of the movements and the experiences they gave us. Several people expressed regret at not being able to come and asked if I would do another workshop, so here it is! This workshop will be slightly different so that people who came to the last one can get a different experience but still go deeper in their experience of the Planets. When we read a book again and again we continue to discover new things and see new connections and similarly when we are learning something new it is only through continued repetition that we can go deeper in […]
The new term has started, but it still feels very much like hibernation time in some ways. It is dark before I get home most days and it is still very much winter. The autumn and winter is a time when we are generally much more attuned to and focused on our inner needs and in listening to ourselves, whereas in the spring and summer we are busy with being in the world and enjoying the abundance of nature and the warmth (if there is any!). Therefore winter is a good time to initiate routines of self-care and taking time to rebalance and energise. Eurythmy is a great way to find harmony and inner balance and it is gentle exercise […]

The workshops this spring term are all focused on elements of Speech Eurythmy and how we can make sound visible in movement. Following the Zodiac Workshop on the 20th January we will delve more into the sounds that are connected to the Zodiac signs in this workshop. We will therefore focus on the consonants and as well as experiencing and experimenting with each of the sounds, we will be working with a consonantal sequence that is called ‘the evolutionary sequence’, which can take us through all the stages of human life. Eurythmy is called visible speech, because we always endeavour to make every poem/verse etc visible in movement. When movement and language really unite then we have really achieved this […]
