Thursday ‘After Work’ Eurythmy Class starting 14th September

It’s the last weekend of ‘the festival’ here in Edinburgh and the city will soon return to it’s normal rhythm. The summer has gone rather fast again this year and it has taken me a bit longer to plan my autumn eurythmy sessions than I thought. This has largely been due to getting regular eurythmy work on Tuesdays, which means I will have to change my Tuesday evening class to a Thursday ‘After Work’ class running from 5.30 – 6.30 pm. I hope this might actually make it easier for some people to attend, as they can attend after work rather than having to come back out in the evening. During these 8 sessions we will be working with several […]

Colour in Movement – Saturday 9th September

Colour is everywhere around us and forms a constant visual backdrop to our lives. It is also intimately connected with our soul moods as can be seen in common expressions such as ‘she is feeling blue’, ‘he saw red’, or ‘they were green with envy’. As well as colours being specifically mentioned in writings such as poetry, many poems also have an overall colour mood, which one can work with when expressing the poem in eurythmy/movement. In eurythmy we work with Goethe’s colour theory, which talks of the ‘deeds and sufferings of the light’. Colour emerges when light engages with darkness in different ways – e.g. whether it accepts it or pushes it away. Working with colour in movement can […]

Eurythmy for Social Awareness

Summer is drawing near and I don’t know about you, but I am feeling more social and more tuned in to what is around me compared to how I am in the winter. Being a keen photographer one of the only things that really makes me pay attention to nature in the winter is a thick hoarfrost or naked branches against an indigo sky after sunset. At the moment I am finding it hard to find time to browse through and delete all photos that don’t make the mark. Summer is a time for being out and about, enjoying whatever warmth there is (we are in Scotland after all!) and eating ice cream with coffee! So I thought that for the […]

Movement and Metamorphosis

Spring seems to be happening really fast here in Edinburgh at the moment. I didn’t have quite enough time to enjoy the cherry blossoms before they were starting to fade and the leaves took over and the lilacs are speeding ahead so fast that it won’t be long till they’re past it either. Spring is the time of year where there is an abundance of change and transformation taking place right before our eyes. You can sometimes see noticeable changes from day to day, and trees that have stood bare all winter now sport the most amazing and varied shades of green. Even when we can’t see it, there is always some kind of change happening in the natural world. The same holds true […]

Eurythmy Evening Classes starting 2nd May

How do you ensure you have time during the week to reconnect with yourself? Maybe with a quiet cup of coffe/tea or a glass of wine? Do you meditate – or try, or maybe do yoga or another kind of movement class or exercise? Do you find it hard to make time for these things and just grab whatever moment you can? Surely committing to yet another weekly activity is NOT the way to get more time to reconnect! The thing is that maybe sometimes it is. Especially if the activity we commit to is one of the very things that can really help us to become more present in ourselves and more aware of the space around us. Eurythmy is […]

Saturday Workshop: Fundamentals of Eurythmy

If you haven’t heard of eurythmy before you are probably not alone. There are so many other movement workshops around that to keep up with every single one of them is quite impossible and the name might sound a bit obscure and not so easy to remember. However, eurythmy is exactly the meaning of it’s name: harmonious movement. It is a movement art that can help us reconnect and to feel ourselves as a fully present member of our own little microcosm and the wider macrocosm around. It helps us become aware of ourselves and to stay present in our everyday busyness and to feel a greater sense of connection to what is going on around us. My upcoming workshop Fundamentals of […]
